• 22nd July – Sara Davies of Bishop Auckland-based Crafter’s Companion Limited, picked up Ernst and Young’s award for Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year for her innovative papercraft products, which are now sold around the world. She has built the company, which has offices in the US, to a £4m turnover in four profitable years.

• 15th Sept – Lorna Moran, MBE, one of the region’s leading female entrepreneurs and first and only female northeast business man of the year! In addition to her leadership of NRG PLC, which she founded in 1976, she is now chairing the campaign to set up a new Maggie’s Cancer Care Centre on the Grounds of The Freeman Hospital

• 12th Oct - Ken McMeikan CEO of Greggs PLC, raised through the retail sector with tough jobs first at TESCO and then at Sainsbury and on a mission to extend Gregg’s throughout the UK (they already have double the stores of Starbucks). With £1 million customers already being served there are another 59million out there.

• 17th Nov – Paul Stobart, CEO for Sage UK and Ireland, a self-styled ‘plastic Geordie’ (born here, but raised in Zimbabwe) who is proud of the FTSE 100 company’s presence in the North East and keeps close to the company’s 800,000 customers by ringing one of them at random every day.
